ALL ABOUT WORKSHIFTS AND VOLUTEERING
A question that often runs through many people’s mind when considering joining a CSA is: Who runs the CSA?
You do! A CSA is a member-run, volunteer-based organization; it couldn’t exist without your support and participation.
While a core group of members volunteer to take on much of the administrative management and logistics of the CSA, every CSA member plays a role as a volunteer. All CSA members are responsible for working at the distribution/pick-up location at least TWICE during the season. Workshifts are approximately 3 ½ hours.
CSA members meet to unload the produce truck, set up the distribution site, check in members, restock and help distribute produce and products for their fellow members, clean up and bag left over produce for donation to the food pantry.
Our CSA is an all-volunteer organization, which means that all members are expected to volunteer their time at distributions to ensure that the CSA can operate. A site manager will be on hand each week to train volunteers and orchestrate set up and clean up. Volunteering is a great way to meet other CSA members and learn more about the produce received in the weekly share.
New for 2012 is the on-call schedule. We will be looking for some members who may have a more flexible schedule to sign up for this on-call backup schedule in case there is an emergency and a scheduled member cannot make their shift. Please visit the Contact Us page if you are able to assist. Your time is greatly appreciated.
- Set up shares, write share lists on board, write share signs.
- Greet members and check off names on the pickup list.
- Re-distribute shares, clean as needed.
- Clean up space, wipe down tables, secure supplies.
- Bag or box extra shares. Give to food pantry pick up person.
*Please note that the shift does not end until 6:15. You are expected to stay through the end of your shift.
Changing your shift
If in case of emergency you need to change your scheduled shift, you are responsible for trying to find a replacement. Please let us know ASAP what you have arranged. The CSA relies on all members to ensure that distributions go smoothly.
